Join us for a cozy Friday-evening in a safe community, where you’ll be guided through a deeply relaxing practice of yin yoga and yoga nidra. (EN/FI)
This is for my fellow over-doers and over-thinkers!
Destination: Inner freedom and spaciousness, a sense of deep safety and trust within
Means of transport: cultivation of greater self-awareness; practice of complete acceptance & non-judgmental approach to one’s inner world; the willingness to release all tension & resistance to anchor back to one’s inner light, wisdom and love
We’ll come together to rest and release the stuff we tend to collect and hold on to within our bodies and minds; to recover from the stresses and strains of our busy lives.
Stillness and silence support us to resolve the inner conflict of resistance, free residual tension from the body-mind, and eventually return to our most natural state of being - a sense of internal spaciousness, freedom, safety and peace.
What does surrender mean?
Through the lens of yoga, surrender refers to our ability to recognise when it is time to let go of control and struggle, rest back and relax while our previous efforts continue unfolding.
In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras we are offered 5 inner duties that must be practices in order to achieve enlightenment and liberation, the final one of them being the practice of surrender or Ishvara pranidhana:
“Ishvara pranidhana is a “big picture” yoga practice: It initiates a sacred shift of perspective that helps us to remember, align with, and receive the grace of being alive.” -Shiva Rea, Yoga Journal
It can be scary and it can give rise to resistance, because we are asked to open ourselves to something we yet do not know.
This is where we shall rely onto that innermost part of us - the part of us that is always there, always present. The part of us that is one with timeless wisdom; unconditional love; pure joy and undisturbed peace. Our inner knowing or the highest self - the aspect of us that knows everything is okay, and that we’re okay.
The more we let go and surrender, the more our inner knowing and trust strengthens, and the more gracefully we’ll be able to deal with the ebb and flow, shifts and changes of life.
What is yin yoga?
A gentle yoga practice of long holds and soft, curious attitude to explore your inner world. Yin Yoga is absolutely suitable for everybody (and every body) and requires no previous experience.
Yin Yoga is an amazing practice to help us release tightness and tension from the deeper tissues of the body, activate the parasympathetic nervous system (the vital state of rest & digest), build and maintain the body-mind connection and bring us to greater sense of wholeness inside.
What is yoga nidra?
Nidra is a sanskrit word meaning sleep, and some common translations of yoga nidra are "yogic sleep" or "enlightened sleep". The intention of the practice is not to fall asleep though, but to guide the mind and body into a state of deep rest, and then journey to the world of the unconscious while remaining awake on one level of one's being.
Through several different deep relaxing techniques the practice employs different brain waves to produce desirable change at various levels of human capacity. Yoga Nidra is a deeply relaxing practice, and can be used for several different goals such as improving cognition, getting quality sleep, general healing or specific healing. Since it is practiced by simply laying down in a supine position, it is very accessible and requires absolutely no previous experience.
We will close the practice with small self-reflection in community circle though journaling, so please bring something to write on.
All props available on site. Tea and small snacks included in the session. <3
